FAQs

What is the Tri-County BCCCP?

  • The BCCCP is a State program that provides “free” breast and cervical cancer screening and follow up services for lower income women who are eligible for the program.

Who is eligible for the program? Women may be eligible if they are:

  • Michigan residents who live in Wayne, Oakland, and Macomb counties
  • Between the ages of 40 to 64
  • Uninsured (or underinsured)
  • Have a household income that meets program requirements
  • Some exceptions apply so call us if you have questions about your eligibility

What does the BCCCP cover?

  • Office visit for clinical breast exam
  • Mammogram
  • Pap smear and HPV testing
  • Follow up testing if your breast exam, mammogram or Pap/HPV test is abnormal

Anything else?

  • Help with scheduling your screening appointment
  • Reminders about some upcoming appointments
  • Personal support for any woman who wants a little extra help getting through screening, follow up or even treatment

Where do I get these services?

  • At your choice of more than 40 Detroit area hospitals, offices and community clinics that partner with the BCCCP.

Is it really “free”?

  • Yes – there are no out-of-pocket costs for any of the covered services.

What about treatment?

  • Women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer through the BCCCP are almost always eligible for treatment coverage through other BCCCP-related programs.

Do you offer any services for men?

  • Unfortunately the BCCCP does not provide services for men.

What about other health care needs?

  • The BCCCP can only cover services directly related to breast and cervical cancer.
  • However, through our community partnerships we can help women (and men) identify other possible sources of help for their other health care needs.

What changes will occur in the BCCCP when the Affordable Care Act (ACA) takes effect?

  • Some current (or potential) BCCCP enrollees will become eligible for new health insurance coverage under the Affordable Care Act and we will help these women move from BCCCP to ACA coverage.
  • Women who do not obtain insurance through the Affordable Care Act will still be able to enroll in the BCCCP and receive all of our services as long as they meet our standard eligibility requirements.
